Being Nikki by Meg Cabot
SYNOPSIS:
Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts.
Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel.
But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts.
How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns — especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side...
Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular.
But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki.
REVIEW:
I picked up Being Nikki from the library and it turned out to be as enjoyable a read as the first book of the Airhead trilogy. The book starts with Em Watts trying to fit into Nikki's shoes, after the operation, discovering how Nikki was not exactly the most loved girl in the world, and that she had managed to make quite a number of enemies when she was alive. She is reluctant but she has to do so in order to keep her family from being hunted by the Stark Enterprise,of which Nikki was the brand ambassador, the face of the company. Then Em's life as Nikki is turned upside-down by the arrival of Nikki's brother with some disturbing news. The story also beautifully captures Em's pining for Christopher, her best friend from her previous life as Em,and who does not recognize her as Em in Nikki's body.Towards the end of the book the plot takes a shocking turn as several truths are bared. There are several twists right at the end of the book and the book ends with a cliff-hanger with Meg Cabot promising to come back with the final installment of Airhead.
I really liked Em's character in the book. She is a strong girl and she helps and fiercely protects her family. She does everything that the Stark Enterprise tells her to do just to keep her family and loved ones safe. Not only does she take care of her own family but also Nikki's family. And the helpless way in which she pines for Christopher's love, not being able to tell him the truth, being trapped in Nikki's body,is touching. It is a really cute book with plenty of action...will surely keep the readers entertained till the last page!
