That's the only way to explain her image-obsessed mother; a kind but distant stepfather; and a brother with a small personality complex. Bronwen knows she must have been switched at birth, and she can't wait to get away from her "family" for good. Then she meets Jared Sondervan. He's sweet, funny, everything she wants -- and he has the family Bronwen has always wanted too. She falls head over heels in love, and when he proposes marriage, she joyfully accepts. Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella revealed!

I totally love the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. It's one of my favorite series! And so when I saw that the Mini Shopaholic book is soon going to be released,I just couldn't not make a post about it! And the cover is so so cute too!!!

Here's how the book synopsis goes like-
“Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) thought motherhood would be a breeze – but it’s trickier than she thought. Two-year-old Minnie is a little tearaway who has created havoc everywhere from Harrods to Harvey Nicks to her own christening. She hires taxis at random, her favourite word is ‘Mine’, and she already has a penchant for Balenciaga bags. Becky is at her wits’ end.

On top of this, she and Luke are still living with her Mum and Dad, there’s a big financial crisis so everyone’s having to Cut Back – including all her personal shopping clients – and her husband Luke is feeling low after the death of his beloved stepmother. To cheer Luke up, Becky decides to throw him a surprise birthday party – on a budget – and that’s when things become really complicated. As Becky tries to keep the arrangements secret, misunderstandings and excuses sprout everywhere, and soon she’s told so many fibs she can’t keep track of them. Will Becky pull off the surprise? Will Minnie give everything away? Will Minnie’s godparents ever stop arguing? Who will end up on the naughty step and who will get a gold star? And what will happen when Becky discovers Luke is keeping a big secret too?”

CANT WAIT for the book!!!

SEA BLUE PEOPLE WIN MYSTERY BOOKS CONTEST: WEEK 2!

Heidi R. Kling is having an awesome contest.Check out this post from her livejournal:

*with bonus GOSSIP GIRL ranting. Warning: Contains spoiler's from Monday's episode

Hey all!

Week Two has arrived!
Thanks for all your entries last week.

This week we have a couple new things to do in order to consider yourself "entered" into my contest.

ONE: Copy this blog post in your blog, link it back here, voila!
TWO: Change your Twitter icon to SEA --what can I say? I like Blue People!
THREE: Add SEA to your Goodreads list and/or Vote for SEA in a debut/blue book etc. "list"
FOUR: And this is where things get interesting.

Everyone knows I like teen TV. Love the CW. Love Life Unexpected, Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries.

But I *hear* that Life Unexpected might be getting cancelled because of lack of viewers (gasp!) This is one of the sweetest, funniest, full-of-heart shows on TV and I love it. If it get cancelled I will cry. SO.

OPTION 4 is SIGNING THE PETITION TO THE CW encouraging renewal for LIFE UNEXPECTED.

http://www.petitiononline.com/s3781/petition.html

Please. Thank you.

FIVE: Did you see last night's Gossip Girl where Chuck went totally out of character and basically broke all character development (I'm guessing) for ratings and/or shock value? Not only did they reuse a tired (and pro-prostitution) plot of this movie:

They go on to suggest Chuck was in full support of his uncle's—with the character range of a shark— wicked plan.

LAME LAME AND MORE LAME.

YA author Kody Keplinger (THE DUFF) and I were so appalled by this that we decided to write new endings to save Chuck's reputation and to keep from throwing left-over Easter eggs at the TV.

As writers, we NEED TO STAY CONSISTENT with character development. Especially for a character like Chuck who has developed SO much and it has taken SO long. The fans have been rooting for him to change and when he finally does (and is completely believable and happy) to resort back to awful behavior is a cop-out. As fans, we are not happy.

If you are also unhappy, please send your thoughts here:

http://www.cwtv.com/feedback/comments

If you are happy don't pick option 5

SIX: Make a VLOG! Be creative. Just mention SEA somewhere. Bonus points for a SAVE LIFE UNEXPECTED or RANTING about character consistency. ANd singing. (Bonus points are in my heart. ;D )

OKAY, that's it!
Leave in comments what you chose to do.
Pick three!

Check back later this afternoon for a *new and improved ending* right here. :D

Contest ends at MIDNIGHT FRIDAY PST!

Contest at Parajunkee's

Parajunkee's paranormal contest! There will be two winners! To enter, check out this link-http://www.parajunkee.com/2010/03/pjvs-666-giveaway.html

Being Nikki by Meg Cabot

SYNOPSIS:
Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts.

Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel.

But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts.

How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns — especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side...

Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular.

But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki.

REVIEW:
I picked up Being Nikki from the library and it turned out to be as enjoyable a read as the first book of the Airhead trilogy. The book starts with Em Watts trying to fit into Nikki's shoes, after the operation, discovering how Nikki was not exactly the most loved girl in the world, and that she had managed to make quite a number of enemies when she was alive. She is reluctant but she has to do so in order to keep her family from being hunted by the Stark Enterprise,of which Nikki was the brand ambassador, the face of the company. Then Em's life as Nikki is turned upside-down by the arrival of Nikki's brother with some disturbing news. The story also beautifully captures Em's pining for Christopher, her best friend from her previous life as Em,and who does not recognize her as Em in Nikki's body.Towards the end of the book the plot takes a shocking turn as several truths are bared. There are several twists right at the end of the book and the book ends with a cliff-hanger with Meg Cabot promising to come back with the final installment of Airhead.
I really liked Em's character in the book. She is a strong girl and she helps and fiercely protects her family. She does everything that the Stark Enterprise tells her to do just to keep her family and loved ones safe. Not only does she take care of her own family but also Nikki's family. And the helpless way in which she pines for Christopher's love, not being able to tell him the truth, being trapped in Nikki's body,is touching. It is a really cute book with plenty of action...will surely keep the readers entertained till the last page!

My Rating:4/5

Review:Airhead by Meg Cabot

SYNOPSIS:
Emerson Watts, 16 and female, loves playing video games, hanging out with her best friend, Christopher, and has made peace with her less-than-supermodel-esque looks. But when she's involved in a mysterious accident, she wakes up to find she's now in the body of...a supermodel. Who was behind this switch? What was the motive? And how can she get Christopher to realize she's still the same person inside?
-Goodreads

REVIEW:
Em is a regular teen with normal problems-she is being laughed at by her school elites and her sister for being a geek and all-things-science fan,she doesn't understand whether she has more than friendly affection for her best friend Christopher, her sister is a nagging fashionista whereas she hates fashion, etc to name a few. However her life totally and completely turns after a massive hanging television falls on her at the opening of a mega mall. She faints and wakes up a month later to find herself in the hospital in the body of the famous supermodel Nikki Howard! At first she suffers an identity crisis, with unknown people flocking her, claiming to be her friend,lover-but soon enough she realizes that her brain has been transformed into Nikki's body! When she charged the doctors, they threaten her into submission and force her into leading Nikki's life. She is in deep trouble and she herself can save herself from it! But how?!
I wanted to read Airhead because I loved Princess Diaries and I can happily say that I am not in the least disappointed. Well...Airhead may not be as fabulous as Princess Diaries but it certainly is a great page-turner. Meg Cabot has certainly done a lovely work with this cute book.I liked the book a lot and it left me wanting more...

My Rating:4/5

Review:Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis

SYNOPSIS:
Shelby’s summer plans go totally awry when her horrible stepmother sends her off to “brat camp” as punishment for one too many broken curfews. Camp is full of spoiled rich kids, obnoxious counselors wanting Shelby to talk about her feelings, and a totally inhumane “no cell phones” policy.

Things start looking up, though, when Shelby meets fellow camper (and son of a rock star) Austin Bridges III. But soon she realizes there’s more to Austin than crush material—his family has a dark secret, and he wants Shelby’s help guarding it. Shelby knows that bad boys get her into trouble…but who is she to turn her back on a guy in need, especially such a good-looking one?

Heather Davis’s debut novel mixes together irresistible characters, a pesky full moon, and a delicious taste of the supernatural.
-Goodreads

REVIEW:
This book far surpassed my expectations. When I borrowed it from my friend,I thought 'Let me just give it a try..' But the book turned out to be quite a page-turner.
For once,I loved the protagonist Shelby-she is strong, sassy and isn't all about make-up or being frail and fragile in the hands of the oh-so-hot-and-dashing guy,who actually turns out to be a werewolf! Shelby has a few issues-having lost her mother, having to deal with a step-mom-from-hell,thinking that she has lost her father to her step-mom and being packed off to a brat camp. But she deals with her problems on her own and doesn't go around whimpering, which felt so nice to read..!
Austin on the other hand has his own problems-being the son of a famous rockstar and having to hide a family line of werewolves including himself. He doesn't manage quite as well and it is Shelby who helps him at her own risk with his little secret.
Though this is a hot-werewolf-meets-lame-human-girl story, which is so very frequent around now,I really enjoyed it as it also deals with some major issues of teenage life-brat camps,loneliness,step-parents to name a few.
Heather Davis's writing is smooth and she has kept her story brief but complete. The book is fun and I don't think anyone will be majorly disappointed if you choose to read it!

Interview:Swati Avasthi

This is my first interview and I have the wonderful Swati Avasthi with me today! She is the author of the wonderful book Split which deals with the extremely serious issue of physical abuse and complicated relationships between family members.

> M:What sparked the idea of Split? Did you consciously set out to write
about such a topic?

S:I coordinated a domestic violence legal clinic for three years. I heard thousands of abuse stories and was inspired by the courage it takes to leave an abuser, to face the devil you don't know. But when I discussed my work, most people would ask me, "why does she stay?" The question struck me like wrong note because it implies a subtle amount of blame. And the blame is being placed on the wrong person. No one asked me, "Why is he resorting to violence?"

Domestic violence is typically framed as a women's issue, when in fact, it is a men's issue. In most cases, men are the abusers and the abusers have the clearest line of sight to ending domestic violence, not the victims. Our dialogue is directed to the wrong gender. That is why I wrote Split from a boy's point of view.

M:How difficult was it handling such a delicate issue?

S:Not very. I suppose that the work in the clinic had me prepared, but I struggled more with issues of craft than subject matter.

M:Tell us something about yourself we wont find on your homepage

S:Both my parents are doctors and all three of their children have turned into writers, which harkens back to our grandfathers. The writing gene skipped a generation, I suppose.

M:Do you have a writing ritual?

S:I prefer to write at a coffee shop while listening to a playlist that has been created for the books I write. There are samples of the playlists on my website.

M:What do you do if/when your Muse fails you?

S:Yell at it. When that doesn't work, I try to entice it to return by reading the masters who can inspire it to return.

M:How does it feel to be a published author in such a competitive field?

S:It is pure pleasure. Whenever I think about it or walk into a bookstore, my stomach flutters and I start to smile. People have been describing me as 'giddy' and 'radiant'.

M:Your favorite book,author and genre.

S:Favorite book: To Kill a Mockingbird
Favorite Author: Emily Bronte
Favorite Genre: Why, YA, of course!

M:A book you wish you had written. Why?

S:Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I think it's an important work that helps girls.

M:What are you writing on now?

S:I'm writing my second YA novel, BIDDEN. Savitri, Corey, and Holly are looking forward to a summer of comic book reading and freerunning. But a shooting changes everything. Corey is dead, Savitri is seeking revenge, and Holly is slipping into a world where no one can follow. Written into dual POVs with a graphic component, BIDDEN is about how far we will stretch to save our friends.

M:Anything you would like to add?

S:If you think you might be a victim of abuse, please go online to: www.loveisrepect.com. Or, if you are in the US, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE or National Teen Dating Abuse Hotline at 1-866-331-9474. Please make sure you are calling from a safe phone or using a safe computer.

Thank you so much for joining us and sharing so much of you, your life and your thoughts.
