Review:Wings by Aprilynne Pike
Synopsis:Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.
Wings is a lovely debut novel. I liked the way Aprilynne has written the story. Laurel, though a seemingly ordinary 15 year old girl, sprouts plants on her back one day. Her shock and astonishment at this beautiful 'wing like petals' have been beautifully demonstrated. I like the fact that one gets a thorough insight into her mind-how she is afraid that she is a 'freak',different from all her friends...thus her trying to conceal her wings, keeping it a secret from everyone(except David),even from her parents!
David is the best friend anyone can ever get. He helps Laurel, supports her, even risks his life for her...
Tamani, the beautiful faerie,on the other hand has an elusive attraction about him. He must be visually stunning with all his green hair-ends and all-I can still picture him...is a great sight!
Laurel must have had a really tough time deciding whom to choose-David or Tamani. I am really eager to read the sequel..
I will give Wings a 3.5 out of 5. Thats pretty good considering the narrative actually picks up pace after Tamani's appearance!
