A dystopia contest is going on at The League of Extraordinary Writers at http://leaguewriters.blogspot.com/2010/05/introducing-league-of-extraordinary.html
About the League from the blog-"The League of Extraordinary Writers is a group of debut YA authors who write science fiction and dystopian works. It's an awesome blog of very talented people. Check it out please.
A chance to win Visibles ARC at http://callier.blogspot.com/2010/05/visibles-arc-giveaway.html
Synopsis:
When introduced to the concept that DNA defines who we are and forever ties us to our relatives, Summer Davis clings to the idea like a life raft, allowing her to feel connected to her beautiful, aloof mother, who abruptly abandoned the family. Summer's father responds to their loss by descending into mental illness, haunted by a lifelong burning secret and abetted by a series of letters that he writes to make sense of his feelings. As Summer deals with her father's illness, her brother's indifference, and her own relationships from adolescence to adulthood, she begins to question the role of genetics and whether she is powerless to escape her family's legacy of despair. But when she decides to put off a science career in New York City to take care of her great-aunt Stella, bedrock of the family and bastion of country wisdom, irreverent insight, and Sinatra memorabilia, Summer begins to learn that her biography doesn't have to define her-and that her future, like her DNA, belongs to her alone.

Books I Cant Wait To Read!
EVERLASTING by Angie Frazier:
Release Date: June 1st
Synopsis:
Sailing aboard her father’s trade ship is all seventeen-year-old Camille Rowen has ever wanted. But as a girl of society in 1855 San Francisco, her future is set: marry a man she doesn’t love, or condemn herself and her father to poverty.
On her final voyage before the wedding, the stormy arms of the Tasman Sea claim her father, and a terrible family secret is revealed. A secret intertwined with a fabled map, the mother Camille has long believed dead, and an ancient stone that wields a dangerous—and alluring—magic.
The only person Camille can depend on is Oscar, a handsome young sailor whom she is undeniably drawn to. Torn between trusting her instincts and keeping her promises to her father, Camille embarks on a perilous quest into the Australian wilderness to find the enchanted stone. As she and Oscar elude murderous bushrangers and unravel Camille’s father’s lies, they come closer to making the ultimate decision of who—and what—matters most.
SEA by Heid R. Kling:
Release Date:10th June
(Summary from Goodreads)
Haunted by recurring nightmares since her mother’s disappearance over the Indian ocean three years before, fifteen-year old California girl Sienna Jones reluctantly travels with her psychiatrist father’s volunteer team to six-months post-tsunami Indonesia where she meets the scarred and soulful orphaned boy, Deni, who is more like Sea than anyone she has ever met.
She knows they can’t be together, so why can’t she stay away from him? And what about her old best friend-turned-suddenly-hot Spider who may or may not be waiting for her back home? And why won’t her dad tell her the truth about her mother’s plane crash? The farther she gets from home, the closer she comes to finding answers.
And Sea’s real adventure begins.
SHE'S SO DEAD TO US:
Kate Brian, author of the Private series, is bringing out a book under her real name of Kieran Scott this year. SHE'S SO DEAD TO US is due out on 2nd September 2010.
Home is where the hate is…Ally Ryan’s back in Orchard Hill, a place she vowed never to set foot in again. Not after the trauma of her family fleeing their home in shame when her dad’s business dealings almost bankrupted their local community. Now she’s moved back, but her old ‘friends’ are cutting her dead. And while she may have outgrown the country club-trust fund-new car every year-lifestyle, they certainly haven’t – and they won’t let her forget that now she’s living on the wrong side of the tracks. As if dealing with past demons and current grudges isn’t enough, now Ally’s met the handsome, wealthy and totally into her Jake Graydon, who just happens to live in her old house and be part of the clique that’s rejected her…complicated much? Ally was hoping to start her life over again, but she’s learning that some things just can’t be forgotten…
Isnt the cover just the cutest?! :)

Kick ass heroines
Definition of kick ass heroines according to me-Heroines/female protagonists who kick some serious ass!!
Kick ass heroines are girls who can fight for their own rights, stand up for their own causes,do not depend on others to be their saving grace in a perilous situation and have not only the strength but also the presence of mind to come out of any unpleasant situation!
Two Example-
Katniss from Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins
Sookie Stackhouse from Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris
These characters feel way more better to read about than the whiny ones who are maimed and crippled enough to do nothing without the 'male help'! I love kick ass heroines!

I am sure everyone knows what a lovely book Beautiful Creatures is. For those who are not aware of the story, here goes the story synopsis for you-
Some loves are meant to be…
others are cursed.
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a curse. There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave
